Bassins du Nouveau Havre
The multifunctional Bassins du Nouveau Havre project on the site of the former Canada Post mail sorting centre will be a job creator because of the tourism projects, offices spaces and neighbourhood shops it will bring in its wake. The project will encourage social mix with its cooperative, community and private housing, and a high quality of life with its green spaces and recreational areas.
RESO and its partners Bâtir son quartier and the Coalition de la Petite-Bourgogne have made several intercessions to make sure that the mail sorting centre, put up for sale by Canada Post in the early 2000s, remains in the public domain—an aspiration realized when the site was later acquired by the Canada Lands Company (CLC).
In 2004, RESO and its partners began devising a development plan for the site. The plan's principal guidelines were then borrowed by the CLC for its own master plan, which was prepared with the input of advocacy groups in the community, RESO among them.
